"A 'Bummel,'" I explained, "I should describe as a journey, long or short, without end." However wonderful this may sound, it is often necessary to arrive back at the starting point. And, for the three fearless friends whose earlier adventures were told in Three Men in a Boat, this poses a troublesome problem.
George, Harris, and J. decide to take a cycling trip through the Black Forest - to be accomplished on a tandem plus one. Whether it is Harris's harrowing experience with a Hanoverian road-waterer or George's valiant attempt to buy a cushion for his aunt, their experiences are hilarious - - and they may even offer some important lessons to all who may be contemplating a cycling trip in the U.S.

I love this book and Jerome K. Jerome's previous book "Three Men in a Boat". A keen observer of Victorian and Georgian England, his mini travelogues are exquisite pearls but it is his sly humor I love best. P.G. Wodehouse was influenced by these books. His observations about Germany and it's inhabitants a decade before World War I will give readers chills of premonition of things to come but written with a warmth for the individuals. A good, light read.Product details

Three Men on the Bummel (Audible Audio Edition) Jerome K Jerome Frederick Davidson Inc Blackstone Audio Books Reviews
Three Men In a Boat is my favourite book of all time -unfortunately this one seems rather labored & ends too abruptly .Not a bad read though . Lois Taylor.
Almost a very worthy sequel to its predecessor 'Three Men in a Boat'. In fact the humourous vignettes are as funny or funnier, however the thread that runs through "Three Men in a Boat", namely the Thames is absent. The Black Forest just doesn't cut it and therefore there is a definite lack of overall unity to the story. Still it is laugh-out-loud in parts and well worth a read.
There is little I can add about this book that hasn't been said before, but, those natives of the US of A who have not met up with Jerome K Jerome, like dry British humour and wish to find out how people lived, thought and behaved a century ago could do worse than read all of this author's works. A good start would be "Three Men in a Boat" where the misadventures of the three men in this book are first related. This is a MUST READ for those not in a hurry and who can travel at a leisurely pace.
I know nothing of the finer points of e-book production. This book is a faithful reproduction of the print original - I could almost smell the aged paper and see the foxing. The percentage read indicator was sufficient - who really needs page numbers in an e-book (apart from reading groups)?
Buy the book - it's cheap enough - then read the rest of his books.
There is more to humor than just laughing and this book (Three Men on a Bummel) satisfies my appetite for humor that exposes our common human foibles. Like its predecessor, "Three Men in a Boat", I relaxed into the comfort of shared frailties, follies, and foolishness to laugh and merge with George, Harris, and Me. Not to forget Montmorency, the lucky dog who lived a dog's life with joy and love. I re-read this book at least once a year and the pleasure never dims. This is a book that causes in me gratitude for the enduring written word. We need more Jerome J. Jeromes!
Jerome K. Jerome has done it again! Since I read Three Men in a Boat, I have become addicted to the witty nature & hilarious narrative of Jerome K. Jerome. Three Men on the Bummel is equally funny as it depicts the "three amigos" traveling through Germany with the hysterical commentary of Jerome. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good laugh.
Folowing on from Three Men on a Boat, the three friends embark on an international bike tour. Every bit as funny as the original, this sequel had me in fits of laughter in a restaurant once and I was laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. There are a number of situation comedy moments that any comedy writer would wish they had crafted. Again it shows the human condition and the imperfections of men and women and the hilarity that can be extracted from human weakness without courseness or bad language and without demeaning other races or cultures. A great, great book. Read it or regret not doing so.
Strictly by chance, I happened on Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men In A Boat. Having spent almost five years in England when I was a teenager, I love to read about the country and it's people. Three Men In A Boat is a very funny book. When I found Three Men on the Bummel, I was as delighted with it as I was with the "Boat" book. When I first went to England, at age sixteen, I wasn't aware of how subtle and out loud funny British humor can be. It took me a little while to "get" it, but when I did, I was hooked. Jerome's almost subliminal sarcasm is priceless. The same "three men" in the first book, are the same three who go on another holiday, and muddle through the same sort of adventures, all quite unplanned and unexpected. Picture Sherlock Holmes plopped into the 70's Height Ashbury scene. Both books are highly entertaining, and well worth the read.
I love this book and Jerome K. Jerome's previous book "Three Men in a Boat". A keen observer of Victorian and Georgian England, his mini travelogues are exquisite pearls but it is his sly humor I love best. P.G. Wodehouse was influenced by these books.
